The time period from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend is referred to as the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer, says the State Highway Patrol.

During this period last year, more than 67,000 crashes occurred on Ohio’s roadways, a 3 percent drop from 2022.

Of those, 371 were fatal crashes that killed 397 people, which was five less than the year prior.

Even though the 100 deadliest days only represent 27 percent of the calendar year, in the last five years, they account for more than one-third of all fatal traffic crashes.

The State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to buckle up, drive focused and sober.

Garvey and Gabel reportedly tried to evade police when Garvey saw an officer, with them parking and abandoning their vehicle and escaping on foot.

Garvey was found hiding behind a tree at the intersection of Hickory and Sassafras Drive near Vermilion.

Gabel remains at large as of Sunday.

The city says that the official detour will take traffic down to Strub Road, but locals are asked to use familiar side streets.

Pedestrians are also asked to stay clear of West Perkins Avenue during the closure, due to safety reasons.
