The City of Sandusky has announced that the Columbus Avenue underpass is set to reopen to two-way traffic by the end of this week.

Officials say that work has started on milling the pavement with asphalt paving and lane striping over the next few days planned.

The exact reopening date will be announced later this week.

The underpass has been closed to two-way traffic for over 6 months due to a train derailment.

Demolition is back as a possibility for the former Maui Sands indoor water park in Sandusky.

According to the Sandusky Register, Perkins Township officials have voted to hold a future public hearing on the demolition of Maui Sands due to receiving a proposal from the current property owner delaying the securing of the property.

A former Elyria police officer is facing additional charges in connection with an alleged assault on a 16-year-old driver when he worked as a police officer in East Cleveland.

25-year-old Tristan Homan of Huron and 2 other former East Cleveland police officers have been indicted by a grand jury in Cuyahoga County.

Homan pled ‘not guilty’ in March to the initial charges.

The State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to be safe on the road this holiday weekend.

Triple-A is predicting that 42.3 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home during the holiday, a 7 percent increase over 2022.

Last year, 17 people died on Ohio roads during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be keeping a close eye on the roads with an extra emphasis on seat belt violations, impaired or distracted drivers, and speeding.

The Oberlin School Board has gone on the record…

They oppose devaluation of the NEXUS natural gas pipeline.

Schools’ treasurer Robert Rinehart says, the resolution was requested by County Auditor Craig Snodgrass.

School systems in a dozen counties would lose anticipated revenue if the pipeline is de-valued.

In November, voters in Amherst will elect a new city auditor.

The current auditor…Derek Pittak…is stepping down next month…moving out of the city.

Pittak has served as city auditor since 2018.

U-Haul to build a new moving and self-storage center in Port Clinton…

A new U-Haul retail, moving and self-storage facility is coming to an undeveloped site on Route 163 West between Dianna’s Deli and Restaurant and the Sleep Hollows Family Campground.

U-Haul Moving and Storage of Port Clinton is scheduled for completion in 2025.

Sandusky’s famous red popcorn wagon has returned for the season.

Placed in Washington Park, the wagon will again be operated by the Sandusky State Theatre this summer.

The Red Popcorn Wagon is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, having been in Washington Park since 1910.
