The Norwalk Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle intersection crash that happened Monday afternoon.

It happened at the intersection of Route 20 and Route 4 in Lyme Township in Huron County.

Troopers say 58-year-old Jeannette Waibel of Willard was driving on Route 4 when she entered the intersection of Route 20 and was struck by a semi.

Waibel was taken by medical helicopter to a Toledo hospital.

A man from suburban Brooklyn has been sentenced to 6 to 9 years in prison for a fatal crash nearly 2 years ago in Columbia Township.

Prosecutors argued, 33-year-old Kendal Lipke was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he drove left-of-center on East River Road and struck an oncoming car, killing 52-year-old Chuck Thall of Strongsville.

Elyria Fire Chief Joe Pronesti is urging all residents…make sure you have a working smoke detector.

This…after another house fire this past weekend…on Neufer Court.

Chief Pronesti says, luckily, everyone got out safely…as there was no working smoke detector in the house.

There have been 9 fatal fires in Elyria since 2021.

The Ohio Turnpike is set to host a customer appreciation event this Friday.

According to the Sandusky Register, it will take place near Clyde at the Commodore Perry Service Plaza from 10:30 am to 2 pm.

State Highway Patrol troopers and turnpike officials will be on hand educating the public about road safety.

Discounted and free food and snacks will be there too.

Similar events are planned at different service plazas throughout the summer.

The possible creation of an Assistant Police Chief position is planned to be discussed tonight by Norwalk City Council. 

The Norwalk Reflector reports that officials say that no one will be appointed to the new position until at least after the date of Captain Jim Fulton’s retirement on June 2^nd.

The Assistant Police Chief would serve as Active Chief in absence of the Police Chief.

Current Norwalk Police Chief Dave Smith recently announced his retirement, effective in September.

Sandusky City Commission has awarded a Key to the City to Reverend Thomas Darden.

Darden was Sandusky’s first elected African-American City Commissioner and first African-American City Commission President.

It’s graduation day for seniors from Elyria High School.

Commencement ceremonies are set for this evening at Ely Stadium.

Parking is limited at the stadium due to nearby construction, so the school system will offer shuttle buses from the high school, the Eastern Heights campus and from the Elyria Board of Education.

Memorial Day looks like the day to go fishing in Monroeville.

The police department there is sponsoring “Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs” event at 11 am at Clark Park.

The free fishing day is open to all residents and will include access to rods, reels and bait.

Refreshments will also be provided.

This Saturday, Willard Fire and Rescue will open its doors to the public.

They’ll be hosting an open house event from 11 to 2.

The event will include fire station tours, equipment demonstrations, kid’s activities and more.

If you’ve driven down Lake Road in Avon Lake…you’ve seen signs announcing future construction.

A week from today, milling will begin on the east end of the city and head westward.

It’s part of this year’s re-paving project.
