It was announced Wednesday that the state will aid in the rehabilitation of 38 historic buildings by offering nearly $40 million in tax credits as part of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program.

Among those receiving funds:

-The State Theatre in Sandusky, who’s the recipient of $2 million in tax credits.  Damage to the roof and walls from a storm in 2020 caused the theater to close and undertake a $22.8 million rehabilitation project.

-City of Elyria, $2 million for downtown revitalization. The former Dixon building on Broad Street will be transformed into a multi-purpose complex, featuring E-SPORTS, a restaurant, and an ‘access point’ to several programs offered through Lorain-County-Community-College.

Sandusky City Schools have officially broken ground on the $11 million Sandusky Aquatic Center project.

According to the Sandusky Register, the facility at Sandusky High School will house a larger pool for student-athlete competitions, as well as a separate pool for community activities.

The project’s estimated completion date is summer of 2024.

A liquor and tobacco products compliance check was recently held by Huron County law enforcement agencies.

Authorities say during the checks, underage confidential informants went into local premises and stores to try and buy beer and tobacco products.

The Norwalk Police Department and Huron County Sheriff’s Office are pleased to report that no local businesses sold tobacco or alcohol to those under the legal age.

Compliance checks continue to be executed by law enforcement agencies in Ohio each year during high school prom and graduation season.

In Oberlin, voters will decide two income tax renewals in November.

Proceeds are used for operating expenses, including police and fire.

Kids on the east side of Lorain have a new place to play.

Yesterday, Lorain Firefighters volunteered to assemble new playground equipment at Garfield Park…adjacent to fire station number 4.

Community Block Grants covered the cost of the fun set.
